Too Long

One expects the 25th movie to be special in every way. "Maharshi" being Mahesh Babu's 25th movie promises the same as it begins on a high note that is mounted on a lavish scale. The journey has totally gone on a wrong path towards the end. Moreover, Rishi drives very slowly and reaches to the end at 3-hours runtime. This is what happens when the writers or directors copy a successful movie (3 Idiots) and try hard not to be called copycats, they eventually include things that don?t fit in the story they copied. All in all, "Maharshi" has its moments and is shot in a glossy way, presents some good instants but the journey is riddled with many bumps.

Emotionally driven journey

On the whole, Maharshi is the journey of a man who finds his roots back in his motherland. Who better than Mahesh Babu to portray all this which has been narrated in an emotional manner by Vamsi Paidipally. Top-notch performances, decent humor, relatable social message, and Mahesh's screen presence are main assets. If you ignore the slow pace and slightly predictable second half, this film has in it to work with a major section of the audience and the holiday summer season will help the film in a big way.

Rishi's Journey is Tedious!

However, the main plot isn't done well. All in all, Maharshi has its moments here and there, but fails to maintain the momentum for a longer stretches. It is good in parts, but falls short of expectations on a whole. Mahesh doing better films with similar themes also turns out to be a hindrance for it. Maharshi's box office journey will largely depend upon Mahesh Babu's pull and fan power.

Largely a Bland Film

It's Mahesh Babu's show all the way. His impeccable timing, intense expressions, and earnest dialogue-delivery are a treat. He carries weakest scenes on his shoulders and salvages a few of them. He pulls off the fights with elan. 'Maharshi' is largely a bland film that has a superficial take on the issues it takes up. Dry dialogues and melodramatic conversations should have been avoided. The 'Srimanthudu' favour is palpable. Mahesh Babu's acting credentials are a saving grace.

A Boring Mixture Of Hit Films

t brings us to Maharshi starring Superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead. Vamshi Paidipally seems to be still in Oopiri hangover and wants to deliver something more meaningful than the routine commercial potboilers he makes. One can also see very clearly that there is an attempt to shoehorn various social issues and problems into the narrative. Removing the heroine track entirely would be perfect, but as there are commercial demands, a better-written role into the narrative would have been an ideal alternative take.
